Announcing a Special Issue of the African Journal of Reproductive Health on Adolescent and Reproductive Health
The Women’s Health and Action Research Centre (WHARC) is pleased
to announce the publication of a special edition of the African Journal of
Reproductive Health (AJRH) that presents current research data, detailed
reviews and commentaries on various aspects of adolescent sexual and
reproductive health and rights in the Africa. This 402 paged edition
(AJRH, June 2012; 16(2)...) consists of 22 articles by 75 contributors from
various parts of the world, all describing the current situation of adolescent
sexual and reproductive health in the African region.
The variety of articles in this edition of the journal range from
those that report the results of a comprehensive intervention research carried
out by a Canadian-Nigerian partnership that evaluated the effectiveness of
school-based and community-based approaches for building the competencies of
communities to prevent HIV/AIDS in youth, to those that describe different
scientific and theoretical frameworks for addressing the sexual and
reproductive health and rights of youths. It also includes specific
articles that analyzes the prospects for wider use of ICT and the new media
platforms by youth for accessing sexual and reproductive health information and
services, a review of early marriage and its ill effects in Africa, and
specific examples of how youths in various parts of Africa are using various
forms of sexual and reproductive health services. The full Table of
Contents (TOC) is attached here for your review.
We believe that this edition of the journal will be a very useful
reference material for those engaged in programming, service delivery and
research on adolescent sexual and reproductive health in Africa, and will
contribute to generating greater understanding of the related issues.
The journal will be presented to the public in Lagos, Nigeria on
June 28, 2012 and in Abuja on July 5, 2012. The Lagos event will be
held at the Great Old Hall of the Lagos University Teaching Hospital,
Idi-Araba, Lagos, while the Abuja presentation will be held at the Sheraton
Hotel and Towers, Abuja. At both events, the Director-General of the National
Agency for the Control of AIDS (NACA), Professor John Idoko, will present
keynote address on: “Tackling vulnerability of youths to HIV/AIDS in Nigeria”.
We respectfully advice everyone to book in advance to receive
